After the player has selected which cards she would like to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be dealt. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payment schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payment schedule can change from game to game, so that skillful gamblers are agile enough to select the most beneficial ones each instance.

Once the initial round has completed, the player can either decide to stay on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that might have been won. Additionally, several versions of the game give the enthusiast an opportunity to double their profits, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also variations between specific machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
